Toolz Inc. was in the process of establishing itself as an up-and-coming player in the world of contractor-grade laser levels, using clever new technologies that had the older companies on edge. The heart of the original product is a self leveling pendulum system. I designed fixtures for use in setting the factory position of the laser for level/plumb/square accuracy of +/-3mm over 100m.

To accurately center the laser on the fixture I developed an analog, coupled photocell grid that allowed for very fast indication and correction of laser position via calibrated gauges. Process time was cut in half while the end product was improved.

Following a very proprietary redesign of the leveling mechanism, this circuit is now used as the primary position monitoring mechanism in during level operation. Every moment the unit is turned on the level position of the laser is continually calibrated and adjusted against an internal reference photocell grid of my design.
